May 2016 – HAWAII – Two
new lava flows have broken out at Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano, but neither
is threatening nearby communities. Kilauea is one of the world’s most
active volcanoes. In 2014 lava from one of its vents crept into the town
of Pahoa, smothering part of a cemetery and burning down a home.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says
the new lava flows broke out Tuesday morning from one of Kilauea’s
cones. The U.S. Geological Survey released video showing the glowing red
lava as it pushed through a black landscape. Kilauea has been erupting
continuously for more than 33 years. It’s one of five volcanoes that
make up Hawaii’s Big Island. –ABC News
